On this week’s episode, I cover a question that many aspiring children’s authors ask themselves: is self-publishing the right choice for me? As you’ve probably gathered by now, I’m a big advocate of self-publishing, but the truth is that it’s not right for everyone.
In this episode, I talk about the 5 questions you should ask yourself before deciding if self-publishing is the right thing for you. Thinking through these questions before deciding which route to go can save you a lot of time, money, and frustration. And if you go through them and are still excited to self-publish, then they’ll give you the confidence you need to move forward and set expectations for what the process will actually be like.
I hope you enjoy the episode! I’d love to hear any further questions you have about whether self-publishing is the right choice for you, or your take on the questions I asked in the show.

Hi, Beau,
I heard you interviewed by Jon Bard and then came to your website. Congratulations on your books and your self-publishing-for-authors business. And thanks for all you have shared!
I am a published author in the education market. You are inspiring me to try self-publishing.
Hi Beau, I just heard this podcast and I feel like it should have been #2 to be published. You asked the question about being willing to promote your work on your own. I never really though about it but that is a major part of selling a book. How will people know about it unless it is promoted, and who will promote it, if not you? This was a great podcast. I have lots of ideas about what to write and have actually written a story but I know it needs a lot of work. Your podcast has spurred me on to greater things in my story. I do want to write lots of books, and this podcast helped me to see that I don’t need permission I need to just do it. Thank you so much
I have been researching self-publishing for sometime and yet I am learning new things and getting great tips from your podcast. Thank you so much!!
Have you ever or would you consider a podcast on how you acquired and worked with an illustrator?
Thanks again!
